community artist

i have been a community artist for nearly 10 years.

for 9 years of those years i was the community artist at Lift Youth Project in Quinton, birmingham. i worked with the young people from that housing estate running a variety of clubs and projects. we also worked with adults, running projects for single parents young mums and people wanting to get back into employment, education and training.

my real passion is working with young women from disadvantaged backgrounds helping to raise their self esteem through a variety of creative based projects. in 2007-2008 I was the project manager of The Young Womens Arts project (funded by the Arts Council UK) which saw over 30 young women from the area completing three 10 week projects looking at sexual health, self esteem and aspirations through visual and performing arts. we showcased the productions at the Midlands Arts Centre and Birmingham’s CBSO.
